Honey Whiskey Trio and John Zipperer at City Roots Concert — Saturday, June 17

City Roots logoOne of the many activities at the Hope Lutheran Church is a series of folk-song (or at least “folk-ish”) concerts called City Roots.

Hope Lutheran ChurchHope Lutheran Church is “the little hippie church” on the southeast corner of Melrose Ave. and Mansfield Ave., here in Melrose Village.  (As it happens, the Melrose BID holds its Board of Directors meetings there.)

On Saturday, June 17th at 7 p.m. two amazing musical acts will perform in the June City Roots Concert.  But it’s not just a concert.  There is also a delicious home-cooked dinner, drinks and desserts.  And then after the concert, a song circle takes place where yon can join in and even play.  All this for a $15 donation or whatever you can give for the musicians.  Enter at the main door at the Melrose/Mansfield corner.  And there you can pick up parking passes to park in the permit parking spaces in the area.

Honey Whiskey TrioOne of the two musical acts is Honey Whiskey Trio.  With them you get love, murder, whiskey, trains, stomping and laughter. Spanning the genres of Americana, folk, jazz and bluegrass, the Honeys tell stories and strive to preserve the folk tradition while still giving the songs a “honey twist.” With a foundation of vocal harmony, enhanced by guitar, banjo, mandolin and body percussion, Honey Whiskey Trio has an inherent flexibility to their sound, captivating from the first breath to the last note.

John ZippererAlso performing will be John Zipperer & Friends delivering a unique and refreshing blend of rock, folk, country and blues. John Zipperer’s clear voice, infectious melodies, and heartfelt lyrics reach fans in places that they didn’t know existed. Soon everyone is singing along, swaying, chair dancing, head bobbing, and clapping. Fans remark over and over about the joy that is evident when the band is on stage – joy in their playing, joy for their audience, joy from their audience.
