AIDS/LifeCycle and other activities will close streets in and around Melrose Village this weekend

Things will be busy on streets in and around Melrose Village this weekend.

AIDS-LifeCycleAIDS/Lifecycle will be finishing Saturday morning, June 11th, at Fairfax High School.  This seven-day bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles raises money and awareness for the fight against HIV/AIDS. The ride will be coming east on Santa Monica Blvd. through West Hollywood, turning south on Ogden Dr. to Melrose Ave.  Cyclists are expected to arrive between  10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Ogden Dr. and Melrose Ave. will be affected intermittently, especially in the morning. The Finish Line Festival will be at Fairfax High School from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with a Closing Ceremony after 5 p.m.

LA_Pride_logo-New-2This weekend is also the Christopher Street West L.A. Pride Festival in West Hollywood. San Vicente Blvd. will be closed late Thursday to early Monday between Melrose Ave. and Santa Monica Blvd., with some impact on adjacent streets. The Pride Parade will be on Santa Monica Blvd. between Crescent Heights Blvd. and Robertson Blvd. from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Santa Monica Blvd. and some nearby streets will be closed between Fairfax Ave. and Doheny Dr. from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Purple-Line-ConstructionAnd this is the first weekend of the complete closure of Wilshire Blvd. to install decking in preparation for building the Metro Purple Line subway La Brea Ave. station. This weekend Wilshire Blvd. will be closed from La Brea Ave. to Detroit St. from Friday, June 10th at 8 p.m. thru Monday, June 13th at 6 a.m. This will also affect Wilshire Ave. buses. This work will continue almost every weekend (excluding July 4th and Labor Day weekends) for a total of 22 weeks. Different sections of Wilshire Blvd. will be closed on different weekends. For more details, including detour maps, see the Metro Purple Line La Brea Avenue Decking page.

  3. Yes. We got the day wrong for the AIDS/Lifecycle. It’s on Saturday, June 11th, so it does not affect the Melrose Trading Post at Fairfax High School or the L.A. Pride Parade.
The version of this post on-line has this corrected.

    Hi Bob,

Nice post. One correction though: the AIDS Lifecycle closing ceremonies will be on Saturday. They schedule the ride to finish the day before the gay pride parade. Info here:
