While the Santa Monica Blvd. theater district is not very far from Melrose Village, we have quite a few live theater venues right here within walking distance. And great shows often start here. “I Love Lucy Live on Stage” started at the Greenway Arts Theater 2½ years ago and is now touring the country to packed houses. (That show is now playing at the 3000-seat Segerstrom Hall in Orange County.)
Another play is having its World Premier here at the Zephyr Theatre next week. It’s “Doctor Anonymous” written by New York-based playwright/psychiatrist Guy Fredrick Glass. The play, set in Philadelphia in 1972, looks at the subject of gay conversion therapy “in a tale of love, liberation and opera.” (The photo to the right features two of the cast.)
“Doctor Anonymous” opens on Saturday, March 29th, with previews on Thursday, March 27th and Friday, March 28th. The Zephyr Theatre is located at 7456 Melrose Ave., between Gardner St. and Vista St.
