Even those who leave their “Holiday” trees up for a long time will eventually want to take it down. If it’s an artificial tree, you’ll just take it apart and put it away for next year. If it’s an actual (formerly live) tree, be sure to take it down before it becomes a fire hazard, especially if you keep the tree lights on.
So for those actual trees, first remove ALL of the decorations — lights, ornaments, stand and ALL of the tinsel. If the tree is not too big, you can cut it up and place the parts in your green waste bin. But make sure that there is only actual tree parts in there. Tinsel doesn’t compost.
If your Christmas tree is too big to cut and place it inside the green waste bin, simply place the tree next to your green waste bin on collection day.
