Nextdoor.com

The City of Los Angeles Department of Neighborhood Empowerment — the department that oversees and supports the Neighborhood Councils — has been working with a website called Nextdoor.com with the purpose of engaging more people in their neighborhoods. (The EmpowerLA article is here.)

nextdoorWe’ve logged in to the nextdoor.com website. It’s set up to connect people together in what they call neighborhoods when enough people sign up.  It does involve giving them information such as your street address, so you would have to decide how that is for you. They also use cookies to identify you when you return to the site.

Right now one thing we’d like to see them change is their definition of the Melrose Village neighborhood. It’s not clear who selected which areas would be in which of their “neighborhoods.” We’ve already contacted them about what we consider to be Melrose Village, and we’ll see what happens.
