We hear a lot about Black Friday — all the deals, the crowds, the starting on Thursday (or not).
And, more important in our local communities, is Small Business Saturday. The idea is to support small, locally-owned businesses. Here in Melrose Village, almost all of the business are small and locally-owned. There are stores here where you can find interesting and fun holiday gifts, in addition to the many places to enjoy your holiday weekend in other ways: Local theaters, some with special shows; and the many, many places to eat, ranging from simple hot dogs (well, maybe not so simple) to fancy sit-down restaurants.
The money spent at these small businesses tends to stay local, helping our local economy. (And for the Kosher businesses along Melrose, we’ll extend Small Business Saturday into Sunday.)
And these small businesses along Melrose Avenue are the core of Melrose Village, a core that the residential areas fill out. We can live here and walk to these businesses for shopping, food and entertainment. So Shop Melrose Village on Small Business Saturday (and Sunday).
