Resident Starts Campaign to Save Trader Joe’s

The Melrose Village Blog received this message from local resident Todd Waldman about the Trader Joe’s at Movietown Plaza, which is scheduled to close on August 31:

If anyone is interested I spoke to management at Trader Joes and they said they are “in talks” with the developers to maybe be a part of the new plaza. However, he did say it was looking very unlikely. This Trader Joe’s has been such a huge part of the community, apparently there for over 28 years, and I’d love to start a campaign to save it with the powers that be. If interested please email me at

Thank you!

Yes, I really don’t see, based on the new development plans photo, how this store can remain open. It would have to be completely rebuilt into the mixed use plan. Good luck with that. RIP Trader Joe’s Movietown. :/

Originally the plan was to build in two phases. First would be construction of the Santa Monica facing buildings. Upon completion Trader Joe’s was going to move in and then the other buildings would be built.

After Casden lost it, that was revised and it’s now being built at one time. It’s a shame to lose TJ’s, but my guess is that something equally good will come in. I know that Sprouts is heavily scouting the area–it’s a great alternative to Whole Foods.
