Back to Black at the Groundlings

Today’s Los Angeles Times profiles the very funny show “The Black Version,” which plays occasionally at our local comedy joint, the Groundlings Theatre.

The show is staged by veteran black comedians.  They take an audience suggestion of a popular movie and then improvise a “black version” of it.

The show’s creator, Jordan Black (yes, that’s his real name), has also done brief improv versions of this concept as part of regular Groundlings performances.  We were there on the night that he and another actor did a black version of To Kill a Mockingbird – which was hysterically funny.

Check out the article.  If you want to see “The Black Version,” the next shows are scheduled for late August.
