Great news for our neighborhood – Albano’s is back!
For those of you who don’t remember, Albano’s Brooklyn Pizzeria was for many years a great source of authentic pizza and pasta for our community. While the neighborhood has many upscale Italian restaurants (including Angeli Caffe, Pizzeria Mozza, and the new TiroVino Wine Bar), Albano’s filled the niche of everyday, tasty, inexpensive red-tablecloth Italian food. Think, baked ziti, Sicilian pizza, and penne bolognese. (At least, that’s what we usually ordered.)
Sadly, Albano’s closed in 2008. Since then, its former space on Melrose (between Poinsettia and Alta Vista) has been filled by Enzo’s Pizza, and then Love Pizza. Both offered forgettable fare, and both closed quickly.
Today, one of our roving correspondents ran into Anthony Albano, who was working on the old storefront. Anthony was happy to announce that it will re-open this week as the new and improved Albano’s.
Hooray! Get your napkins at the ready. Penne bolognese, here we come….
