Mark your calendar and reserve the evening of Tuesday, August 2. That’s when our community’s big National Night Out event will take place in Poinsettia Recreation Center. It will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00, with the main stage near the Willoughby Avenue entrance (at Fuller).
National Night Out is an annual event that promotes community, brings neighbors together, and enhances public safety. Our local event is co-sponsored by the LAPD Wilshire Division, Melrose Action Neighborhood Watch, Mid City West Community Council, and the Melrose Avenue Merchant Alliance.
VIPs confirmed for this year’s event include Los Angeles City Attorney Carmen Trutanich, City Council members Paul Koretz and Tom LaBonge, and senior LAPD and L.A Fire Department officials. Other elected officials and community leaders are expected as well.
Free food and beverages will be available for those who attend, thanks to the generosity of Blu Jam Café, Trader Joe’s, Costco, and other local restaurants and stores.
The event will feature community booths and special activities for children. There will be a free raffle with great prizes donated by the Farmers Market, the Beverly Center, and other local retailers. There will also be a giveaway of free street trees as part of the city’s “Million Trees Initiative.”
National Night Out is the biggest and best annual event in our community. Don’t miss it!
