Walking along Melrose today, we noticed a “coming soon” sign on an empty storefront – and were surprised to see that it included a drawing of a hand holding a marcona almond.
Turns out, what’s coming soon is a sandwich shop called Marcona. It will open in the next couple months at 7368 Melrose Avenue (between Martel and Fuller). That’s just a few doors west of Vienna Cafe, and across the street from Blu Jam Cafe and Subway.
According to Eater LA, it will offer “a small menu of east coast comfort fare and sandwiches with European influences. Overseeing this venture is Collier Ulrich, an NY area native who moved to LA and worked in production for some time before he decided to pursue his real passion, food and restaurants. In the kitchen one will find accomplice Matthew Moss, out of Chicago.”
The continuing transition of Melrose into a gourmet food strip continues… happily for us. And we are betting the sandwiches here will be a lot better than those at Subway.
