The new West Hollywood Library will be opening tomorrow (Saturday, October 1, 2011). If you would like to attend the opening festivities, they take place from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.
This week the library received a rave review from Los Angeles Times architecture critic Christopher Hawthorne. In a follow-up piece, Hawthorne gave a list of the best public L.A. architecture of the past decade.
One of the buildings on that list is very close to us: the 1140 Formosa condo building, which is half a block north of Santa Monica Boulevard, in the City of West Hollywood. The building was completed in 2009 and was designed by local architect Lorcan O’Herlihy.
You may have noticed this unusual and distinctive building while going to or from the West Hollywood Gateway complex. It definitely catches the eye.
We walked over there today to take a photo – and to investigate the lovely public “pocket park” that West Hollywood created right next to the condo building. Both the building and the park are very much worth checking out.
